    Comment "„Das Virus wurde bisher bei über 200 Vogelarten, bei Mensch und Pferd, sowie vielen weiteren Säugetieren (u.a. Rind, Hund, Katze, div. Nagetiere) entdeckt. WNV hat einen biologischen Zyklus in ornithophilen Vektoren (vor allem Mücken der Gattung Culex). Pferde und Menschen werden natürlicherweise ausschliesslich durch den Biss einer virustragenden Mücke infiziert. WNV wurde in vielen weiteren Tierarten (u.a. Reptilien, Amphibien) nachgewiesen, und grundsätzlich kommen auch Zecken als Vektoren in Frage.
