- Definition The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) was adopted by a Conference of Contracting Governments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, convened in London from 9 to 13 December 2002. The Conference also adopted several related resolutions and amendments to chapters V and XI (now divided into chapters XI-1 and XI-2) of the 1974 SOLAS Convention, as amended. Under the new chapter XI-2, which provides the umbrella regulations, the ISPS Code will become mandatory on 1 July 2004. Reference ---

- Definition Le Code international pour la sûreté des navires et des installations portuaires a été adopté lors d'une Conférence diplomatique (Londres, siège de l'OMI, 9-13 décembre 2002), en même temps que des modifications et amendements à la Convention internationale de 1974 pour la sauvegarde de la vie humaine en mer (SOLAS). Le Code ISPS - qui entrera en vigueur le 1er juillet 2004 - est un nouveau régime global sur la sûreté, visant à établir un régime international de coopération entre les gouvernements, les organismes gouvernementaux, l'industrie du transport maritime et l'industrie portuaire. Il est divisé en deux parties: la Partie A contient les prescriptions obligatoires de sûreté pour les gouvernements nationaux, les administrations portuaires et les compagnies de navigation; la Partie B n'est pas exécutoire, mais elle fournit des recommandations sur la mise en application des dispositions de la Partie A.
