    Comment Müller originally described a tetrathionate broth that inhibited lactose fermenting Enterobacteriaceae but not Salmonella. Kauffmann later modified the formulation to include ox bile and brilliant green to improve selectivity. Finally, Jeffries added Novobiocin to inhibit Proteus species.
