    bacterial leaf spot
    en
Definition dark, necrotic-looking spots on the leaves of plants due to a disease caused by bacteria belonging to the Xanthomonas and Pseudomonas families Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on: Bonnie L. Grant, 'Bacterial Leaf Spot On Plants: How To Treat Bacterial Leaf Spot' (4.12.2019), Gardening Know How"
Comment The spots can be brown with yellow halos or just light and dark areas on the foliage. They are irregular and measure between 3/16 and ½ inches wide. They can occur on the top or bottom of a leaf and kill sections of the tissue when they cluster together. They may also appear on the edges of a leaf, where it appears brownish yellow and the tissue dries and breaks off. As they are produced by two different families of pathogens, the Xanthomonas and Pseudomonas families of bacteria, the spots are also slightly different. The Xanthomonas bacteria produce small brown angular and/or circular spots bordered by a yellow tint. On the other hand, the Pseudomonas bacteria cause red-brown angular and/or circular spots that can distort the affected leaf.
