- Comment Collateral is generally pledged as security in a number of transactions – typically to secure short-term cash funding – and is frequently reused in follow-on transactions. For example, a hedge fund would pledge source collateral, such as equities, with a prime broker in order to secure cash finance. The broker would then reuse this collateral by lending the securities to another party, such as a custodian bank, giving it velocity.
