- Definition La notion visée ici est celle d'une "zone maritime abritée des effets de la haute mer". Dans la directive 98/41/CE du Conseil relative à l'enregistrement des personnes voyageant à bord de navires à passagers opérant à destination ou au départ de ports d'États membres de la Communauté (JO L 188 du 2.7.1998, p.35), de telles eaux abritées sont appelées "zone maritime protégée", alors que ce terme se référe plus souvent à des zones où la faune et la flore sont protégées, au sens de la protection de l'environnement.
