    Comment Onshore turbine installations in hilly or mountainous regions tend to be on ridgelines generally three kilometers or more inland from the nearest shoreline. This is done to exploit the so-called topographic acceleration as the wind accelerates over a ridge. The additional wind speeds gained in this way make a significant difference to the amount of energy that is produced. Great attention must be paid to the exact positions of the turbines (a process known as micro-siting) because a difference of 30 m can sometimes mean a doubling in output.     Comment Les aérogénérateurs (ou éoliennes) sont distants entre eux d'au moins 200 m. Bien que chaque machine ait une faible emprise au sol, il faut disposer d'une superficie de l'ordre de 10 hectares pour un parc éolien significatif. Un aérogénérateur se compose d'un mât pouvant mesurer de 45 à 115 m de haut selon la puissance de la machine. Sur le mât est installée une nacelle renfermant la génératrice électrique qui est entraînée par un rotor de 3 pales.La puissance d'une éolienne terrestre peut aller jusqu'à 3 MW. Une éolienne fonctionne uniquement lorsqu'il y a du vent. Elle tourne lorsque la vitesse du vent s'établit entre 15 et 90 km/h, vitesse au-delà de laquelle l'éolienne s'arrête automatiquement pour des raisons de sécurité. L'électricité ainsi produite est acheminée par un câble électrique souterrain jusqu'au poste de livraison.Source:1.
