    Comment It is becoming more common in light of the AIDS epidemic, and is the safest method of transfusion. Because autologous blood must be drawn, tested and stored in advance (in solution, they can be kept in a refrigerator for only about seven weeks), they work best for nonanemic, healthy individuals who can plan elective surgery.
