Pour d’autres applications de la plage éclairante (distance entre deux feux ou fonctions par exemple),on considère la forme de la périphérie de celle-ci. Les écrans doivent rester parallèles, mais on peut utiliser d’autres orientations. Dans le cas d’un dispositif de signalisation lumineuse dont la plage éclairante entoure soit en totalité soit en partie à la plage éclairante d’une autre fonction ou entoure une plage non éclairante,on peut considérer que la plage éclairante se limite à la surface de sortie de la lumière
