- Comment 27 major fishing areas have been internationally established by the FAO to date (as at 8.3.2018) and comprise: - 8 major inland fishing areas covering the inland waters of the continents, - 19 major marine fishing areas covering the waters of the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Southern Oceans, with their adjacent seas. - Comment La FAO a découpé les eaux de la planète en 27 grandes zones de pêche (8 zones de pêche en eaux intérieures et 19 zones de pêche en mer). La pratique communément admise au niveau international consiste à diviser les grandes zones de pêche en mer en sous-zones, divisions et sous-divisions. Cette pratique a par exemple été mise en œuvre par l'OPANO, pour la zone de pêche 21, et par le CIEM, pour la zone 27.
