- Definition acts of gender-based violence committed, assisted or aggravated in part or fully by the use of information and communication technologies Reference "EP-Terminology Coordination, based on: Simonovic D., ‘Report of the Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Its Causes and Consequences on online violence against women and girls from a human rights perspective’, A/HRC/ 38/47, 18 June 2018, p. 6"
- Comment "Often used interchangeably with the term technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), both terms often having (nearly) the same or overlapping definitions. However, when a distinction is made, only ‘committed’ from the definition above applies, in other words, violence takes place exclusively on online platforms and services (e.g., spreading false information or rumours online), whereas TFGBV also includes offline acts that are facilitated through technology (e.g., manipulating smart home devices to harass or intimidate). Under this understanding OGBV is a subset of TFGBV.1This concept refers to different forms of online violence, such as online harassment, cyber-bullying, cyberstalking, sexist hate speech, non-consensual disclosure of sexual images, doxing, identity theft or hacking.2"
