- Definition radar system, adapted for use in road-going vehicles, which uses radio spectrum to detect obstacles and alert the driver of possible impacts or trigger automatic safety measures Reference "COM-EN, based on:1) EUROPA > Information Society. A radar for your car. http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/policy/ecomm/radio_spectrum/topics/transport/srr/index_en.htm [2.9.2011] and2) Wikipedia > Radar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar [2.9.2011]"
- Comment In order to facilitate the development and deployment of SRR systems in the EU, automotive short-range radars are permitted to use two harmonised frequency bands in the European Union: the 24 GHz and 79 GHz bands. The 79 GHz band is considered to be the long-term operating frequency for SRR and has therefore been allocated on a permanent basis since 2004.
