- en
- Definition diagnostic test to detect tuberculosis in infected animals which involves intradermal injection of Mycobacterium bovis purified protein derivative (PPD) tuberculin and the subsequent detection of a swelling (delayed hypersensitivity) at the site of injection three days later Reference "D.V. Cousins & N. Florisson. 'A review of tests available for use in the diagnosis of tuberculosis in non-bovine species' (16.7.2019). Rev. sci. tech. Off. int. Epiz., 2005, 24 (3), 1039-1059"
- Comment The tuberculin test is usually performed on the mid-neck, but the test can also be performed in the caudal fold of the tail. The skin of the neck is more sensitive to tuberculin than the skin of the caudal fold. To compensate for this difference, higher doses of tuberculin may be used in the caudal fold.
