    Comment Avec ce système, les liaisons mécaniques ou hydrauliques entre le poste de pilotage et les gouvernes sont supprimées. Le pilote ne commande plus directement les braquages des gouvernes, mais désigne des objectifs de pilotage. Ces ordres de pilotage sont ensuite convertis en signaux électriques numériques et transmis à l'ordinateur de bord, qui élabore des ordres de braquages à envoyer aux diverses servogouvernes de l'avion, en tenant compte des mesures de l'état instantané de l'avion (altitude...), qui sont fournies par divers capteurs embarqués de façon que la réponse de l'avion soit aussi «propre» que possible.
