Comment A 'residence order' is an order settling the arrangements to be made as to the person with whom a child is to live. (Section 8 of 1989 Act) Both 'joint residence' and 'shared residence' are in use in the English case-law, and they appear to be synonymous. 'Shared parenting' can be the equivalent or have wider meaning. 'Joint custody' is the historical equivalent in the UK, prior to the changed terminology of the Children Act 1989 and the Children (Scotland) Act 1995. There is no consistent distinction of the kind made in French law between 'garde alternée' (Fiche 2110) and 'residence alternée'

Comment Ne pas confondre avec la notion de garde alternée (fiche n°2110). En effet, la garde peut être alternée sans que la résidence de l'enfant ne le soit.
