- Comment Mit dem Begriff „schädliche Praktik(en)“ oder „schädliche Praxis“ soll die geschlechtsspezifische Dimension von Gewalt hervorgehoben und aufgezeigt werden, dass auf biologischem und sozialem Geschlecht beruhende Einstellungen und Stereotype, Machtungleichgewichte, Ungleichheiten und Diskriminierung das weitverbreitete Bestehen dieser Praktiken perpetuieren, die selbst Formen geschlechtsbezogener Gewalt sind oder Gewalt oder Nötigung mit sich bringen. Er wird oft auch verwendet, um geschlechtsbezogene Gewalt als eine Form des „Schutzes“ oder der Kontrolle von Frauen und Kindern zu rechtfertigen. Neben mit Traditionen verbundenen Praktiken sind in der sogenannten westlichen Welt schädliche Praktiken im Zusammenhang mit sozial definierten Vorstellungen von Schönheit entstanden. Viele Frauen und Mädchen in Gesellschaften rund um den Globus unterziehen sich in zunehmendem Maße, oftmals mit erheblichen Risiken für ihre körperliche Gesundheit, ärztlichen Behandlungen und/oder plastischer Chirurgie, um solche sozialen Körpernormen zu erfüllen. Viele Frauen und Mädchen stehen zudem unter dem Druck der kulturellen Magerkeitsobsession als kulturellem und sexuellem Ideal, was durch die starke Einschränkung ihrer Nahrungsaufnahme ihre Gesundheit gefährdet. Dies hat zu einem epidemischen Anstieg von Ess- und Gesundheitsstörungen geführt.

- Comment Harmful practices serve to highlight the gender dimension of violence and indicate that sex- and gender-based attitudes and stereotypes, power imbalances, inequalities and discrimination perpetuate the widespread existence of such practices, which are themselves a form of gender-based violence or involve violence or coercion. They are also often used to justify gender-based violence as a form of ‘protection’ or control of women and children. In addition to practices associated with tradition, harmful practices related to socially defined notions of beauty have been emerging in the so-called western world. Many women and children in societies throughout the world increasingly undergo medical treatment and/or plastic surgery, often at considerable risk to their physical health, to comply with such social norms of the body. Many women and girls are also pressured by the cultural obsession with thinness as a cultural and sexual ideal, putting their health at risk by severely restricting their dietary intake. This has resulted in an epidemic of eating and health disorders.

Nombreuses sont les femmes et les filles qui sont également soumises à l'obsession culturelle de la maigreur comme idéal sexuel et culturel, au risque de mettre leur santé en danger par le recours à des régimes drastiques. Cette situation a donné lieu à une épidémie de troubles alimentaires et sanitaires.
