    Comment "Les installations du XFEL européen à Hambourg et à proximité, seront principalement constituées d'un accélérateur linéaire supraconducteur d'une longueur totale de 3,4 km, qui portera des électrons jusqu'à une vitesse proche de celle de la lumière, et d'une succession d'aimants permanents (les ""lignes onduleurs""). Les électrons y perdront de l'énergie sous forme de lumière, et l'interaction ultérieure entre les électrons et ces ""paquets"" de lumière conduira à amplifier ces derniers, jusqu'à l'obtention de l'effet laser.
