UK Law UK law does not have a separate term which corresponds to the Dutch concept of ' verdachte'. Rather, a variety of interchangeable terms in English, including ' defendant' (IATE:3584174), ' suspect' (IATE:3584026) and ' accused' (IATE:3583983) depending on the context of its use. There is no exact corresponding UK law term since UK law does not possess a particular schema for naming the person depending on the stage of the proceedings. . Given that the Dutch term ' verdachte' refers to a person with respect to whom there is a reasonable suspicion of guilt of a criminal offence, as well as the perosn against whom the prosecution is directed, all three of the above terms can be used depending on the context in which the term is used. [28.11.2017] . « verdachte» est une notion des systèmes juridiques NL et BE désignant la personne dont la responsabilité pénale est en cours d’établissement, et ce dès la surveillance de la police (avant même l’enquête) jusqu’à la fin de la procédure devant les juridictions de jugement.
