Azerbaijan recaptured large areas of Nagorno-Karabakh in a 2020 war, and in December 2022 began exerting pressure by restricting access from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh through the Lachin corridor. In September 2023, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive against the enclave and took control of it, prompting large numbers of ethnic Armenians to flee the territory."
