- Comment The complete legislative definition of machinery consist of five indents, nevertheless, the basic definition is already in the first indent, the remaining ones only develop the basic definition by expanding on some specific aspects related to connection components, installation of the machine on a specific component, assembling two or more machines together for a specific application, or set out an exception to the general rule that manually powered machinery is excluded from the Machinery Directive.*In the 2020 proposal for a Regulation on machinery products, meant to replace Directive 2006/42/EC, the definition of machinery takes on board technical developments and a new indent is added specifying that an assembly as referred to in the previous five indents, missing only the upload of a software intended for its specific application, is still to be considered as machinery and not partly completed machinery.**
