- Toxizitätswert | TW
- de
- toxicity factor | TF | (eco)toxicity factor
- en
- Definition "factor used for the calculation of Critical Dilution Volume and assigned to each ingredient of a cosmetic product that takes into account (i) the lowest ecotoxicity data available on three trophic levels: algae, crustaceans and fish, and (ii) a safety factor applied depending on the number of chronic or acute ecotoxicity data available" Reference "OOM-Terminology Coordination, based on: L'Haridon, J., Martz, P., Chenéble, J. C., Campion, J. F., Colombe, L., 'Ecodesign of cosmetic formulae: methodology and application' (7.5.2021), International Journal of Cosmetic Science 2018 Apr;40(2):165-177, doi: 10.1111/ics.12448, Epub 2018 Mar 24, PMID: 29405308."
- Comment 1) TF is calculated by dividing aquatic toxicity (either NOEC, EC10, EC50, or LC50) by a safety factor (SF). So aquatic toxicity data are not aggregated and used in the same way to determine TF in CDV method and EF in the USEtox method.2) CDV is calculated based on the chronic toxicity and chronic safety factors. If no chronic test results are available, the acute toxicity and safety factor must be used and vice versa.
