- Nóta In the context of the EPPO, it refers to:inspections, checks or measures undertaken to fight against fraud, corruption and any other illegal activity affecting the financial interests of the European Union and of the European Atomic Energy Community, as well as to establish, where necessary, the irregular nature of the activities under investigation.Administrative investigations does not affect the powers of the EPPO or competent authorities of the Member States to initiate criminal proceedings. Investigations are: - external if carried out in the Member States, in third countries, on the premises of international organisations, or those of economic operators; - internal if conducted within EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies The EPPO may request that OLAF support or complement the EPPO’s activity, among others, by conducting administrative investigations. OLAF does not open any administrative investigation parallel to an investigation conducted by the EPPO into the same facts, without prejudice to the power of OLAF to start an administrative investigation on its own initiative, in close consultation with the EPPO.
