    Comment "'distressed loan' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'non-performing loan' [ IATE:1127446 ] in non-technical texts, but whereas 'non-performing loan' is a regulatory term, 'distressed loan' is not. It is often used in an investment context, where it carries the additional meaning of a loan trading at well below face value because the borrower is under financial stress or at risk of default.Differs slightly from 'bad loan', which sounds more journalistic and emphasises the unlikeliness of repayment, and 'delinquent loan', which does not imply such a long period of non-payment."
