Definition non-carcass parts of slaughtered animals to be used as human food Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination and COM-EN, based on: W.F. Spooncer, 'OFFAL | Types of Offal (19.7.2024)', Editor(s): Benjamin Caballero, Encyclopedia of Food Sciences and Nutrition (Second Edition), Academic Press, 2003, pp. 4246-4251"
Comment "'Edible meat offal' does not include edible fish offal. In order for offal to be used as human food it has to be collected hygienically, inspected, and judged to be fit for human consumption, then cleaned and prepared in an appropriate manner. Because of the variety of different types of offals, both edible and inedible, some attempts have been made to group offals together in different categories. Many texts refer to offal as being derived from the ‘off fall’ from carcass preparation. Some of this ‘off fall’ may be attractive as an edible product while some of it may not be edible at all."
