- Nóta At any time a bank statement is unlikely to agree with the balance in a firm's cash book, because cheques received or paid may not have been banked. A reconciliation is thus prepared to prove that a true record is being kept by the company. This is done by taking the balance in the cash book and taking into account transactions not detailed on the statement.
