    Nóta Im Gegensatz zur einfachen Destillation werden beim Arbeiten mit siedenden Flüssigkeiten unter Rückfluß die aus dem Kolben aufsteigenden Dämpfe in einem senkrecht stehenden Rückflußkühler (...) vollständig kondensiert und als Rücklauf (...) in den Kolben zurückgeführt (Refluxieren). Rücklaufoperationen sind in der organischen Chemie sehr häufig, z. B. bei Extraktionen, bei Lösungsvorgängen oder Reaktionen in Lösemitteln bei erhöhter Temperatur usw. Als Rückfluß oder Rücklauf wird auch jene Teilmenge Kondensat bezeichnet, die bei der Rektifikation im Gegenstrom zu den aufsteigenden Dämpfen in die Kolonne zurückgeführt wird.
