    Comment "A ""dose-range finding study"" is normally performed with a small number of animals before the formal test (using big group sizes) in order to identify what kind of doses will result in the needed effect. That way animal numbers are kept smaller when the formal test is done using directly the meaningful range of doses for the tested substance."
