Definition product used in inhibiting the growth of potato tubers after their initial post-harvest dormant period Reference "COM-EN, based on:Farooqi et al. 2001. Anti-sprouting agent for potato tuber and a method for producing the same. United States. US 6,313,073 B1, filed 30 March 2000, and issued 6 November 2001. (19.7.2021)"
Comment Potato tubers are harvested, allowed to suberize at warm temperatures for about 10 days, gradually cooled down to the storage temperature of about 10 oC. For the first 1-2 months after harvest, the tubers remain dormant and exhibit little inclination to sprout. However, after this period the tubers must be chemically treated to prevent sprouting as sprouting cause numerous deleterious effects to the tubers.
