The Committee was listed in Protocol 37 to the EEA Agreement. Decision 74/234/EEC was repealed and replaced by Decision 95/273/EC, which increased the maximum number of members to 20. Decision 95/273/EC was repealed and replaced by Decision 97/579/EC setting up Scientific Committees in the field of consumer health and food safety, which changed the name to Scientific Committee on Food.The Committee’s responsibilities were transferred to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) [ IATE:915822 ] established by Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, Article 62 of which provides that ‘every reference in Community legislation to the Scientific Committee on Food … shall be replaced by a reference to the European Food Safety Authority’.
