Definition any additive incorporated in cement if it requires certain enhancements Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on: EdenCrete. 'Cement Additives & Concrete Admixtures: Explaining the Difference' (15.1.2024)"
Comment Some of these cement additives include: Grinding aids — These additives come with several key benefits, including saved electrical energy, boosted productivity, and increased fineness. Strength enhancers — Cement may also use certain strength enhancers that increase its mechanical strength, often through chemical activation that maintains the integrity of the cement’s structure and surface. Performance enhancers — Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) sometimes function as additives replacing clinker, with options such as natural pozzolans, blast furnace slag, and others available.

    cement clinker | clinker
    en
Definition intermediary product that is produced in the manufacture of cement and is formed by the heat processing of cement elements in a kiln Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on:- Wikipedia > Cement clinker (5.7.2023)- Mary McMahon. 'What are Cement Clinkers?' (5.7.2023) About Mechanics- European Cement Association. 'THE STORY OF CEMENT MANUFACTURE' (5.7.2023)"
Comment The cement-making process can be divided into two basic steps:- Clinker (the main constituent of cement) is first made in a kiln with gas up to 2000°C, which heats raw materials such as limestone (calcium carbonate) with small quantities of other materials (e.g. clay) to 1,450°C. During this process, known as calcination, the calcium carbonate (limestone) is transformed into calcium oxide (lime), which then reacts with the other constituents from the raw material to form new minerals, collectively called clinker. This near-molten material is rapidly cooled to a temperature of 100 - 200°C.- Clinker is then ground with gypsum and other materials to produce the grey powder known as cement.

    cement manufacture

Definition 1.Cement is produced by heating a mixture of clay or shale plus chalk or lime in a rotary kiln up to 250 m long per 8 m diameter rotating at 1 rpm. The process can be wet, semi-dry or dry and the fuel can be pulverized coal, oil or gas. As the coal ash is similar in composition to the clay or shale, it can stay in the cement clinker. As one of the kiln operator's major costs is fuel and even a modest sized kiln can consume 8-10 tons of coal per hour, the cement kiln could, therefore, solve a disposal problem and also benefit the cement manufacturer by reducing fuel costs. Definition installation used to grind the clinker component of concrete Reference "Wisegeek http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-cement-mill.htm [24.3.2015]"
Comment There are several cement mill types which are able to grind clinker of which the ball mill is the most common. Ball mills consist of cylinders partially filled with large numbers of steel balls which employ their rolling action to crush the raw material when each cylinder is rotated. High pressure roller mills are occasionally used to grind clinker although their use has not yet gained broad acceptance.
