    Comment "Gallus gallus domesticus does not refer to an actual subspecies but is used for all domesticated chicken. All domesticated chickens are descended from Gallus gallus (red junglefowl). There are 4 species of wild chicken in Asia, namely Gallus varius (Shaw, 1798) (poule sauvage verte = green junglefowl), Gallus lafayetii (Lesson, 1831) (poule sauvage de Lafayette = Lafayette’s junglefowl), Gallus sonneratii (Temminck, 1813) (poule sauvage grise = grey junglefowl) and the abovementioned Gallus gallus (Linnaeus, 1758). This is also why G. g. domesticus is often considered as a synonym of Gallus gallus, even though there then is no distinction between wild and domesticated individuals. Theoretically, the corresponding taxon for the wild individuals should be Gallus gallus gallus."
