Comment "Distribution: endemic to Chile. Two subpopulations: one on Chiloé Island off the west coast of Chile and another in Nahuelbuta National Park on the mainland. Charles Darwin observed and was the first to describe this small endemic fox on Chiloé Island in 1834. Darwin's fox has the smallest geographic range of any living canid. Classified as ""critically endangered"" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The population amounts to fewer than 250 mature individuals and is in decline."
