Definition "1.A mass of salt which is injected as a diapir (a dome in which the overlying rocks have been ruptured by the squeezing-out of plastic core material into overlying sedimentary rocks, thereby piercing and deforming them. The mechanism is similar to that of an intrusive magma, with the salt deforming and behaving plastically under pressure. It is of great economic importance because it assists in the formation of a ""trap"" structure for oil accumulation, in addition to its associated deposits of anhydrite, gypsum and sulphur." salt slag
    en
Definition mixture generated when melting light metals (aluminium, magnesium) using salt mixtures (salt fluxes) to cover the molten metal so as to prevent oxidation and to increase thermal efficiency and yield (by facilitating the breakdown of prior oxide layers on the surface of the scrap to be melted and and thence promoting improved separation between the metal and its non-metallic contaminant) Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on:European Commission. JRC. Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document for the Non-Ferrous Metals Industries, http://eippcb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/reference/BREF/NFM_Final_Draft_10_2014.pdf [10.12.2015] & RVA. Origins of Aluminium Salt Slag, http://www.rva-recycling.com/?page_id=98 [10.12.2015]"
Comment These slags are generally produced in rotary furnaces and have an adverse environmental impact if they are deposited on land. The quantity of salt slag produced varies considerably and is dependent on the type of material, the furnace and the degree of contamination, etc. There are options available for salt-free melting in some furnaces using many types of feed materials and there are options for recycling all of the components of salt slag.Salt slag can be completely recovered to produce marketable products without producing any residues except for some activated carbon (if used at all). Two types of recovery processes exist: the full recycling process and the partial recycling process. In the full recycling process, all the components in salt slag are completely recovered and there is no generation of waste water.

    acid salt
    en
Definition salt formed when a dibasic or tribasic acid has been neutralised to some degree Reference "Wikipedia > Acid salt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_salt [23.7.2010]"
Comment Because the acid is only partially neutralised, one or more replaceable protons remain. Typically this will lead to a formula with one or more metal ions, one or more protons, and an anion. For example, in preparing sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) a certain amount of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is needed to neutralise the sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to produce this salt. When preparing sodium bisulfate (NaHSO4), half of the required amount of sodium hydroxide for neutralisation is used.

Comment An example is the mineral dolomite, CaCO3.MgCO3, which contains a regular arrangement of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions in its crystal lattice. Alums are double sulphates. Double salts only exist in the solid; when dissolved they act as a mixture of the two separate salts.
