Nóta The Charter was signed at the Strasbourg European Council in 1989 by all Member States apart from the United Kingdom, which subsequently signed it in 1997. The rights under the Charter mainly concern:freedom of movement; employment and remuneration; improvement of living and working conditions; social protection; freedom of association and collective bargaining; vocational training; equal treatment for men and women; information and consultation and participation for workers; health protection and safety at the workplace; and protection of children and adolescents, elderly persons and disabled persons. These fundamental social rights are further developed in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union [ IATE:914255 ], which became legally binding with the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009.
