In the context of sovereign bond markets, auction overbidding is the difference between the average price at which a bond is sold at an auction and the market price of that bond at the auction bidding deadline. If the auctioned price is higher than the prevailing market price at bidding deadline, there is overbidding; in the opposite case, there is underbidding.
