linkage group

Sainmhíniú (in genetics) all of the genes on a single chromosome Tagairt "Britannica, The Editors of Encyclopaedia. ""Linkage group"" (14.4.2021). Encyclopedia Britannica, 22 Mar. 2019"
Nóta "Genetic linkage is often defined, from a molecular viewpoint, as the tendency of alleles carried by the same DNA molecule to be inherited together. However, if two genes are very far apart on a very long DNA molecule, linkage may not be observed in practice. In this example, consider a long chromosome, carrying all five genes, A, B, C, D, and E. It can be observed that A is linked to B and C, and that C and D are linked to E, but that no linkage is observed between A and E (Fig. 2.24). Given that A is on the same DNA molecule as B and that B is on the same DNA molecule as C, etc., it can be deduced that A, B, C, D, and E must all be on the same chromosome. In genetic terminology, it is said that A, B, C, D, and E are all in the same linkage group. Even though the most distant members of a linkage group may not directly show linkage to each other, their relationship can be deduced from their mutual linkage to intervening genes."
