Sainmhíniú "short single-stranded nucleic acid utilised by all living organisms in the initiation of DNA synthesis and which is bound to the template before DNA polymerase or RNA replicase can begin a complementary strand, because the enzymes responsible for DNA/RNA replication are only capable of adding nucleotides to the 3’-end of an existing nucleic acid" Tagairt "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on:1) Wikipedia > Primer (26.5.2020)2) Cristina Ferrer-Orta, Armando Arias, Rosa Pérez-Luque, Cristina Escarmís, Esteban Domingo, and Nuria Verdaguer. Nóta 1) Living organisms use solely RNA primers, while laboratory techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology that require in vitro DNA synthesis (such as DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction) usually use DNA primers, since they are more temperature stable.2) The DNA polymerases are only able to extend a pre-existing strand along a template; they are not able to take a naked single strand and produce a complementary copy of it de-novo. A primer which sticks to the template is therefore used to initiate the replication. Primers are necessary for DNA sequencing and PCR.
