Sainmhíniú "two identical strands joined by a common centromere as a result of a chromosome that duplicated during the S phase [ IATE:3524302 ] of the cell cycle [ IATE:1544302 ]" Tagairt "Biology Online. Sister Chromatids http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Sister_chromatids [2.12.2010]"
Nóta "Sister chromatids are separated during mitosis so that the two daughter cells would have identical sets of chromosomes. Not to be confused with homologous chromosomes [ IATE:1158664 ], which are the two different copies of the same chromosome that diploid organisms (like humans) inherit, one from each parent. In other words, sister chromatids contain the same genes and same alleles, and homologous chromosomes contain the same genes but two copies of alleles, each of which might or might not be the same as each other. A full set of sister chromatids is created during the S subphase of interphase, when all the DNA in a cell is replicated. Identical chromosome pairs are separated into two different cells during mitosis, or cellular division."
