- Nóta There are nine such boundaries:- stratospheric ozone depletion;- loss of biosphere integrity;- chemical pollution and the release of novel entities;- climate change; - ocean acidification;- freshwater change;- land-system change;- nitrogen and phosphorus biogeochemical flows (mostly nitrogen and phosphorus); and - atmospheric aerosol loading.Crossing these boundaries could generate abrupt or irreversible environmental changes. Respecting the boundaries reduces the risks to human society of crossing these thresholds.

- Nóta Le centre de Stockholm pour la résilience (Stockholm Resilience Centre) a recensé neuf limites planétaires auxquelles l’humanité doit s’en tenir si elle veut se développer et prospérer pour les générations à venir.Ces neuf limites sont les suivantes: le changement climatique, l’érosion de la biodiversité, la perturbation des cycles biogéochimiques de l’azote et du phosphore, les changements d’utilisation des sols, l’acidification des océans, l’utilisation mondiale de l’eau, l’appauvrissement de l’ozone stratosphérique, l’augmentation des aérosols dans l’atmosphère, l’introduction d’entités nouvelles dans la biosphère.
