- Nóta The four municipalities that make up North Kosovo have Serbian majorities. Since Kosovo's declaration of independence there have been tensions between Kosovo’s central authority in Priština, which exerts only limited control, and the North Kosovo Serbs, who have been largely opposed to an independent Kosovo. The 2013 Brussels Agreement led to the integration of the Serb-majority municipalities of North Kosovo into the Kosovan legal system, with guarantees of participation by Kosovo Serbs in certain bodies. However, tensions remain and there is support from some circles for partition of Kosovo and for North Kosovo to become part of Serbia.
