- Nóta In 2022 the European Parliament noted that the EU maintained a list of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts which are subject to sanctions, but that the current legal framework, unlike those of countries such as the United States and Canada, did not provide for the designation of a state as a sponsor of terrorism. The European Parliament called for the creation of an EU legal framework to enable the designation of states as sponsors of terrorism.
