- Nóta "The need for a comprehensive strategy to promote and protect children’s rights in all EU policies and actions was first outlined in the Commission communication Towards an EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child in 2006, and then transformed into actions five years later in the Commission communication EU Agenda for the Rights of the Child. Building on the two Commission communications and on the existing legal and policy framework, the Commission presented the first comprehensive EU strategy on the rights of the child in a communication of the same name in March 2021.The strategy proposes targeted actions across six thematic areas: - Participation of children in political and democratic life - Socio-economic inclusion, health and education - Combating violence against children and ensuring child protection - Child-friendly justice where the justice system upholds the rights and needs of children - A digital and information society in which children can safely navigate the digital environment and harness its opportunities; and - The Global Dimension: an EU that supports, protects and empowers children globally, including during crisis and conflict."
