Nóta "One of the six generally-recognized subspecies of urial. Distribution: Ladakh (Jammu and Kashmir) in India.Ovis orientalis is listed as ""vulnerable"" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The total population of Ladakh urial in India is estimated to be between 1,000 and 1,500 animals. The Ladakh urial has declined dramatically in the last 60 years, especially during the military conflicts between 1947 and 1962. The urial’s habitat is very accessible and susceptible to overuse by livestock herding and other human activitie. Its future status remains questionable due to increasing development activities in the major valleys of Ladakh."
