- Nóta "A fund that would support workers and regions that will lose out in the low-carbon transition was proposed by the European Parliament (but not adopted) already in 2017 when discussing the reform of the EU emissions trading system [Directive (EU) 2018/410]. It would have been financed from auctioning revenues and was referred to as the Just Transition Fund. A similar idea was reintroduced by the EP in 2018 under a new name – Fair Energy Transition Fund (referred to also as Just Energy Transition Fund or Energy Transition Fund – ETF) – and finally materialised in January 2020, although with different scope and ways of financing, in the Commission’s proposal to establish a Just Transition Fund as part of the Just Transition Mechanism under the European Green Deal.The Just Transition Fund was established by Regulation (EU) 1021/1056, which was adopted on 24 June 2021 and entered into force on 1 July 2021."
