- Sainmhíniú method used in microbiology to obtain isolated colonies and semiquantitation of bacterial colonies Tagairt "Mary Louise Turgeon, 'Linne & Ringsrud's Clinical Laboratory Science - E-Book: The Basics and Routine Techniques' (18.2.2020) pg 486, Elsevier Health Sciences 2015"
- Nóta A colony is a growth of bacteria that theoretically grew as a result of a single bacterium replicating into a large group of organisms visible on the agar plate. When plating a specimen on solid agar, the technique results in successively smaller quantities spread or streaked over four areas of the plate (quadrants) from the original material so that by the fourth quadrant, growth of isolated colonies are apparent. Some laboratories use a three-quadrant streak method to achieve isolation of colonies.
