However, if the population is all susceptible to some degree, that degree can vary quite a lot – for example, only 1% of an exposed susceptible population may actually become infected (its susceptibility was low), or 99% of a susceptible population may become infected (its susceptibility was high). The susceptibility of the population is variable, but never zero. This can be due to natural variation, or it can also be possible to reduce or increase susceptibility of individuals or groups through management practices if a species is susceptible.
