Sainmhíniú Solid malt residues that are discarded from the mash ( IATE:1430162 ) - a mixture consisting mainly of ground malt and water produced in the first steps of the brewing process. These residues are usually used as a nutritious cattle feed. Brewers' grains are high in digestible fibre and good quality protein which is quite undegradable due to the heat process in manufacture, but low in starch, and by-passes the rumen to be digested in the hind gut, leading to better utilisation of protein for improved milk/liveweight gain.
