- Sainmhíniú lymphocyte issu du thymus, impliqué tout particulièrement dans la réponse immunitaire de type cellulaire, lors de l'infection par le VIH ; Tout comme les lymphocytes B, les lymphocytes T naissent dans la moëlle osseuse mais maturent de manière différente des lymphocytes B grâce à l'intervention du thymus. Ils sont responsables de l' immunité à médiation cellulaire, c'est-à-dire l' hypersensibilité retardée. Ils jouent un rôle dans l' immunité humorale soit en l'amplifiant (lymphocytes T auxiliaires), soit en l'atténuant avant qu'elle ne devienne excessive (lymphocytes T suppresseurs).
