    Nóta Le volume nº 1858 de la collection "Que sais-je?", intitulé "Le GATT", définit les "deficiency payments" britanniques comme des subventions de l'Etat aux agriculteurs correspondant à la différence entre le prix mondial d'un produit et le prix garanti. Une autre définition (qui figure sur une fiche que son auteur n'a hélas pas signée) parle de différence entre le prix moyen constaté sur le marché et le prix garanti ou de référence ("guaranteed or standard price"). Aux Etats-Unis, toujours selon "Que sais-je?", c'est à peu près la même chose, puisque "la subvention compensatoire est accordée à l'agriculteur quand le prix du marché tombe au- dessous du prix d'objectif fixé pour chaque campagne."
