- Nóta "The EU currently comprises 28 countries. Following the first 6 countries - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands - a further 22 countries have joined the EU:- 1973: Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom; - 1981: Greece; - 1986: Spain and Portugal; - 1995: Austria, Finland and Sweden; - 2004: Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia; - 2007: Bulgaria and Romania; - 2013: Croatia. Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey have the status of candidate countries. Accession negotiations with Iceland started in July 2010 and were then put on hold by the Icelandic government in May 2013. In March 2015, Iceland withdrew its application to join the EU. Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo (as defined by UN Security Council Resolution 1244) have the status of potential candidates. - Nóta L'Union européenne (UE) comprend actuellement 28 pays membres. Composée initialement de 6 pays - Belgique, France, Allemagne, Italie, Luxembourg et Pays-Bas - l'UE a progressivement accueilli 22 nouveaux pays en son sein:- 1973: Danemark, Irlande et Royaume-Uni;- 1981: Grèce;- 1986: Espagne et Portugal;- 1995: Autriche, Finlande et Suède;- 2004: Chypre, République tchèque, Estonie, Hongrie, Lettonie, Lituanie, Malte, Pologne, Slovaquie et Slovénie;- 2007: Bulgarie et Roumanie;- 2013: Croatie.Aujourd'hui, l'Albanie, la Macédoine du Nord, le Monténégro, la Serbie et la Turquie sont candidats à l'adhésion.Les négociations en vue de l'adhésion de l'Islande ont débuté en juillet 2010, puis ont été suspendues par le gouvernement islandais en mai 2013. L’Islande a retiré sa demande d’adhésion en mars 2015.La Bosnie-Herzégovine et le Kosovo ont le statut de candidats potentiels à l'UE (en vertu de la résolution 1244 du Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU).
